To become an official
Florida resident, file a declaration of domicile. The document states that
you reside at a certain address and is notarized by the Clerk of
the County Court. Contact the Clerk at (386) 822-5711 Monday through
Friday excepting legal holidays between the hours of 8:00a.m. and
4:30p.m

New residents must register their vehicles in
Florida within 10 days of gaining employment or enrolling children in school.
To register a vehicle, be prepared to provide the Volusia County
Tax Collector's office with your current driver's license, proof
of
Florida auto insurance, prior registration certificate and ownership title.
The vehicle identification number will be verified, and you will
need to apply for a
Florida license plate. The fee depends on the vehicle's weight. Newcomers
also must apply for a
Florida Title Certificate if there is a lien on the vehicle; you should
bring your payment book to the Tax Collector's office. Contact the

Drivers Licenses
Any driver who becomes a Florida resident must obtain a Florida
driver's license within 30 days of seeking permanent residency here.
You must register your vehicle(s) and get Florida Auto Tags before
getting your driver's license. New residents are required to pass
only a visual examination if they have a valid license from another
state, and no moving violations within the last three years. Test
appointments are recommended. A new driver's license costs $20 and
is valid for six years. Drivers must be at least 16 years old to
qualify for a driver's license, and 15 years old to obtain a restricted
learner's permit. The local driver's license office is located at

Registering to Vote
Residents of Volusia County are urged to become registered voters.
To be eligible to register to vote in Florida, a person must be
at least 18 years of age, a United States citizen, a resident of
Florida, in possession of his/her voting rights (not having had
them taken away by a court of law).
Residents may register to vote by completing
a Florida Voter Registration Application and mailing it to the Volusia
County Department of Elections, PO Box 1467, DeLand, FL 32721. Application
forms are available at all Volusia County Libraries, all local Chambers
of Commerce, and most banks and financial institutions. Residents
also may register to vote at the same time they apply for their
Florida driver's license, through the State Division of Highway
